Yoga
Yoga in Sanskrit, means ‘union’. It combines physical exercise, mental meditation, and breathing techniques to support overall health and well-being. In the practice of Yoga, ‘prana’ is the vital energy that links restoration of the natural balance and flow of energy on all levels of existence: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. This asserts that health is the natural state of an organism, and illness or disease occurs when this state is deranged by an imbalance or lack of vital life force energy (prana). In the practice of yoga, prana is the motivating force that causes all things to come into existence, to breathe, to live, and ultimately to change and disappear through time. Prana is the link between matter and energy, between nature and consciousness, and the bridge to self-realization. All of yoga, in whatever form it is practiced, is based on the cultivation, consolidation, and circulation of prana. Through prana, consciousness is changed, and health and well-being is attained.
Yoga has taken various forms in Western society. I create custom classes depending on the needs of my students, whether we are focusing on stretching, flexibility and opening up the body after a long day of work and sitting, rejuvenating the mind with meditation and breath work, or a physical workout to release endorphins and sweat out toxins, focused on power Vinyasa movements.
Physical benefits can include increased flexibility, muscle strength and tone, improved respiration, energy and vitality, stress and weight reduction, improved posture, lower blood pressure, improved cardio and circulatory health, and helps with protection from injury.
I offer 60 minutes yoga classes, as well as integration of well-rounded 15-30 minute yoga flows leading into a sound healing session. Many people find it helpful to move and open up the body before lying down to receive the healing benefits of a sound bath.
